Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report of Proposed Prison Relocation Project at Millewa, Horana (on going)
Client: Urban Development Authority, Sri Lanka
Narrative description of Project:
  • Assessment of the environmental impact of the relocation of Walikada Prison to Millawa Estate Horana using sound and vibration modelling, Air Quality Modelling, Land Use Mapping/capabilities assessment, Subsurface Geological modelling/mapping using bore-hole data, Terrestrial Ecology & Critical Habitat Assessment, baseline surface and groundwater quality assessments and waste management.
  • Assessment of Social impact through a comprehensive social impact survey, and assessing the resettlement plan proposing improvements.

  • Bathymetric studies, ocean survey as inputs to the Thermal, brine, sediment transportation & coastal stability modellings, interpretation of results and making recommendations on the re-positioning of the seawater intake/outfall pipes
  • Sampling marine biota, Phytoplankton, Zooplankton, Sediment characteristic and benthos, endemic species, critical habitats, Corals and fouling/associated organisms using appropriate underwater surveys and analyses techniques and making recommendations to preserve the marine ecology

Consultancy service for the additional environmental and social studies for the Mundeni Aru River Basin Development Project.
Client: INSUCO, (2020)
Narrative description of Project:
  • Task 1: Critical Habitat Assessment to identify if any critical habitat is affected by the Project and including a mapping of Elephants corridors
  • Task 2: Development of frameworks & capacity building to (a) set out the principles, rules, tools and procedures for the management of E&S risks and impacts in an Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF) and a Resettlement Policy Framework (RPF), and (b) provide training for the teams responsible for the implementation of the frameworks.
  • Task 3: Land Study, to identify current land issues and potential resettlement sites (including mapping of grazing land and cattle corridor), as well as the impact on intergroup dynamics, looking especially at social cohesion and gender dimensions. Task 3 will be conducted in parallel of Task 2, implying that the main results of the Land Study will be included in the ESMF and RPF.
  • Task 4: Environmental and social commitment plan (ESCP)
  • Task 5: Additional baseline data collection. Currently potential project impacts cannot be fully assessed and mitigation measures identified due to the lack of available E&S baseline data. The Task 5 consist in additional data collection, as needed to produce E&S document compliant with the World Bank Operational Policies.

Technical and commercial proposal for smart waste management solution.
Client: MAS Fabrics, Matrix. (2021)
Narrative description of Project:

MAS Matrix is one of the knitted garment manufacturing facilities of MAS group. The manufacturing facility is located in Thulhitiya MAS Fabric Park. Since the company generates significant amount of waste including mixed waste (yarn, fabric, paper, polythene, chemical, etc.), chemical waste and food waste this covered the waste generated in the manufacturing process.

  • Verification of facility’s compliant requirements for environmental laws and regulations

Flood mitigation proposal for Randiyagama, Wennappuwa.
Client: Wennapuwa Pradeshiya Sabawa. (2021)
Narrative description of Project:

Successful ‘urban flood mitigation and management’ is developed by CCSD and presented it to Wennapuwa Pradeshiya Sabawa and it requires proper understanding of the problem, long-term planning, availability of resources for taking immediate action during flood events.


Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) of cane cultivation for Sugar industry
Client: Su-Enco, Sutech Engineering Company Limited, Thailand. (2019)
Narrative description of Project:

To cultivate a net area of 30,000 hectares suitable for cane cultivation out of the 100,000 hectares available and that has been identified in the initial investigative study and confirmed in the feasibility study. This project will be based on 15,000 hectares on an out grower model and 15,000 hectares on a cane growers cooperative society scheme.

Implementation of the proposed project, hitherto the largest sugar development project in Sri Lanka would result in significant economic and social benefits to the local community, sustainable income to thousands of farmer families from this project would uplift and improve their living standards and remove them from the dependence on the government.
